MORE OBJECTORS TO HEATHCOTE SCHEME

Further objections to the Heathcote County Councils’ district planning scheme were heard by a special committee of the council on Thursday evening. About 16 counsel and witnesses were present. The committee comprises Crs. I. L. Hall, W. Laing, M. Thompson (chairman), W. E. McGavick and the county chairman (Mr C. D. Le Comte) ex officio. J. R. Davis (Mr J. Creighton) objected to a proposed road through his property in Bowenvale avenue. Crothall and Company (Manawatu), Ltd., (Mr R. G. Blunt) objected to a proposed road off Port Hills road and

submitted a plan for resiting it. An objection to Crothall and Company’s scheme from J. and C. M. Summers, of Port Hills road, was read to the committee. The Hillsborough Residents Improvements Society (Mr B. S. McLaughlin) opposed part of the suggestion of the company.

Murphy Brothers (Christchurch) Ltd (Mr A. D. Holland) objected to part of its land being zoned residential •A’. The National Mortgage and Agency Company of New Zealand Ltd (Mr S. G. Erber) objected to the zoning of part of its property. The objection was opposed by the Hillsborough Residents Improvements Society. The National Mortgage company opposed an objection relating to the provision of parking spaces made by the Heathcote County Council.

Mr J. R. Woodward, on his own behalf, objected to the zoning of a part of the Princess Margaret Hospital area, at present used as a residential section. Were it zoned other than residential, the North Canterbury Hospital Board could erect whatever structure it wanted on the site, he said. Mr W. A. Wilson appeared for the hospital board, in opposition.

John Frederick CracroftWilson (Mr J. R. Woodward) objected to a proposed road across his property. The Christchurch Junior Chamber (Mr S. Wood) objected to the scheme on the grounds that additional reading access was necessary for the Ferrymead Historic Park project. At the end of the hearing the committee reserved its decision on the objections. Further objections will be heard on Monday evening.
