Mass Meeting Of State Servants

A mass protest meeting of 700 members of the Combined State Service Organisations would be held on November 17, in Christchurch, to decide action relating to superannuation and leave, the secretary-organiser of the Christchurch branch of the Public Service Association (Mr A. H. Strong) said yesterday.

Guest speakers from the central committee of the Combined State Service Organisation in Wellington would attend to address members.

The speakers would include the president of the P.S.A. and chairman of the Combined State Services Organisations (Mr W. E. B. Tucker); Mr J. Turnbull, of the Government Superannuitants’ Association, Mr 0. J. Doddge, of the Railway Superannuitants' Association; and a representative of a teachers’ organisation. Mr Strong said that representatives of the various State service organisations in Christchurch, who met recently, were adamant that something must be done

to make known their views and to state their case tor the restoration of equitable superannuation conditions in line with the rising cost of living. Annual leave equivalent to that granted in other countries was wanted, he said. Organisations which are expected to be represented at the meeting are the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, the Engineers, Firemen and Cleaners' Association, the Educational Institute, the Post Office Association, the Public Service Association, the PostPrimary Teachers* Association, the Railway Officers' Institute, the Railway Tradesmen's Association, the Railway Superannuitants* Association and the Government Superannuitants* Association.
