Some Leaders Gain, But Market Down
Some leaders gained, but the market continued to fall yesterday as New Zealand stock exchanges closed trading for the week. There were three times as many falls as rises, on low turn-over and a narrow range. The overseas list improved and was in balance. Ballins at 11s 3d and Ivon Watkins Dow at 14s each rose 3d. Textiles finned, Kaiapoi-Petone recovering 2d to 4s 8d and McKendrick Id to 7s Bd. Mosgiel Woollens went to 16s on confirmation of record profit. N.Z. Forest sold Id up at 20s Id. U.E. Box at 10s and 1968 notes at 8s lOd each recovered Id. Falls of 3d were recorded by Alliance at 8s 9d, Bell Radio at 21s, Hay’s at 16s 9d, Reid Rubber at 24s 3d, and South British Insurance at 295. South Otago Freezing fell a further 2d to 17s 3d and Southland Frozen Meat another 3d to 17s 9d. General Foods at 12s 2d and Woolworth N.Z. at 10s lid each fell Id.
