The Government, the Opposition and independent school authorities had agreed that the question of State aid to private schools should not become a “political football,” the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Kirk) said in a campaign address in Invercargill tonight Answering a question from the floor, Mr Kirk said the school authorities had approached the Minister of Education and had specifically asked the State aid question not become an election issue.
