South Africa And U.N.

Sir, —“D.V.” has not been able to find any argument to justify or defend South Africa’s remaining in the United Nations. Instead he falls into the usual weakness of finding other wrongs in the world and tries to tie them up with the opposition. The Suppression of Communism Act has been very successfully used to suppress everything contrary to Nationalist policies. They would even go so far as to label John F. Kennedy, Robert Kennedy, and Lyndon Johnson Communists for introducing equal opportunities for all races. Jack Simon’s statement about the Communist-controlled United Nations army is typical. As for any African being free to leave the country, has “D.V.” ever heard of the Departure from the Union Regulation Act? If he made some inquiries he might find out the facts.—Yours etc. M. November 3, 1966.
