Nursing Post
Miss Nancy Kinross, supervising matron to the Southland Hospital Board for the last four years, has been appointed an assistant director, division of nursing. She will move from Invercargill to her new post in Wellington in January. Miss Kinross’s work is in the Hospital Nursing Service. The position became vacant after Miss S. M. Lowe was appointed director, division of nursing.
Born in Oamaru, Miss Kinross was educated in Wellington, where she attended the Kilbirnie Primary School and Wellington East Girls’ College. She later studied at Victoria and Otago Universities and graduated a bachelor of arts at Canterbury University after completing her basic nursing education at the Christchurch School of Nursing in 1952. She was appointed a tutor at the school and taught there from 1956-59 and from 1961-62. In 1959, Miss Kinross was awarded a British Commonwealth scholarship and a Fulbright travel grant to study at the University of California, where she obtained her M.Sc. in nursing .She was awarded a Rockefeller fellowship in 1960 to study basic and post-basic university nursing programmes in America and Canada. A member of the New Zealand Registered Nurses’ Association, Miss Kinross has been a member of the Dominion executive, the education committe, the economic welfare committee, and the New Zealand Hospital Mat-
rons’ Association. She was appointed this year to represent general schools of nursing on the Nurses’ and Midwives’ Board and has for some years been on the board’s education committee.
