GROUP’S GUESTS

Overseas Students Overseas students had been welcome guests at the monthly meetings of the Christchurch area group of the Pan-Pacific and South-east Asia Women’s Association, the president (Mrs G. W. Fairweather) said in her report to the annual meeting. Many members had invited students to their homes and the students had invited their hosts to attend their own social gatherings.

One member of the association who visited Hong Kong during the year and saw Project Concern clinics, reported that the children needed toys. A collection was sent.

Tan Kwan Ying, the Chinese girl sponsored by the association, was reported to be making favourable progress. The sponsorship will be continued.

The Mayor of Christchurch (Mr G. Manning) agreed to become a patron to replace Mr W. R. Lascelles, who has retired.

Life membership was conferred on Mrs M. Evans for her many years of devoted service.

Officers elected are:—president, Mrs G. W. Fairweather; vice-presidents, Mesdames W. H. Scott and D. Weststrate; secretary, Miss L. E. Coleman; assistant secretary, Miss J. Buckhurst; treasurer, Miss B. B. Evans; committee, Mesdames M. Adcock, M. Evans, J. R. Fahey, M. R. Gibson, M. J. Goosens, H. Holmes, A. Kohlap, C. M. Newton, I. Smith, L. G. Smith, Misses K. Bland and M. Pollock.
