Supreme Court DIVORCE CASE

Publication Forbidden

Mr Justice Wilson in the Supreme Court yesterday made an order forbidding any report of an action before him under the Matrimonial Proceedings Act, 1963. Under this act, which governs divorce procedure, there are already restrictions on what newspapers may publish; but under the principal sub-section of section 84, the court may make an order “forbidding publication of any report of the proceedings therein as to the whole or any part thereof.” Counsel in the action yesterday, at the end of the hearing, sought an order from his Honour forbidding publication of “any material details." His Honour said he thought it was a case of which no report should be published, and made an order accordingly.

Application Adjourned

An order sought from Mr Justice Wilson in the Supreme Court yesterday under the Family Protection Act by Thomas Reginald Brice, a sound-system technician (Mr J. R. Fox) concerning the disposition of the estate of Alice Elizabeth Elliott, a widow, formerly of Rangiora, was adjourned for further consideration, after discussion between his Honour and counsel for various defendant parties represented. Discussion concerned details of the order, the summons for which was set down as uncontested.

The trustees of Mrs Elliott’s will—Brice himself and Richard Hugo Bowron, a solicitor—were represented by Mr G. T. Scott.
