AUCKLAND VENUE?
N.Z. Rowing Tourney (N Z. Preu Association' WELLINGTON. Auckland is expected to apply for the 1968 New Zealand rowing championships at the National Rowing Association’s annual meeting in Wellington at the week-end. When nominations for the championship venue closed last Friday no nominations had been made by centres throughout New Zealand. However, local sources expect that Auckland will seek the championships and will, if granted them, stage the national event at Lake Karapiro. This year’s championships were held at Lake Karapiro. The rowing association's secretary. (Mr E. R. McCalman) said yesterday he had received no official applications for the championships.
Attentive Audi e n c e.— Yvonne Barrett, an 18-year-old pop singer, was one of a number of entertainers who gave a show for prisoners at Pentridge Gaol, Melbourne, at the week-end. One of the songs she sang was called “Run For Your Life.” “They listened attentively, and were most appreciative,” she said. —Sydney, Nov. 1.
