Leaders In Balance In Quiet Trading

Leading stocks were in balance on the second day of the week’s trading. Although falls just shaded rises the tone of the market was much improved. Turn-overs were still low, but the range of issues widened. Most movements were narrow.

Autocrat Radio at 10s 3d, National Insurance at 22s 9d and Rothmans at 23s 3d each rose 3d. Fletcher Holdings at 18s, McKendricks at 7s 8d and Wright Stephenson at 14s 6d firmed 2d each. Taranaki Breweries gained 3d to 10s 6d, and Tui also rose 3d to 7s 6d. United Empire Box shares and notes improved.

Falls of 3d were chalked up by A.B. Consolidated at 4s 9d, Consolidated Plastics at 21s 6d, Lane, Walker, Rudkin at 15s 6d and Woolworths N.Z. at 11s. New Zealand Breweries lost Id to 13s Id. Southland Frozen Meat shed another 3d to sell at 18s.
