Appointment Criticised A member of the executive of the Canterbury Softball Association, Mr G. T. Senior, has resigned because of the executive’s decision to appoint Miss N. Beale player-coach of the Canterbury senior women s team. The defeated candidate in the ballot with Miss Beale, Mr G Griftin, resigned as a senior women s selector but said that he was prepared to accept the position as senior B coach. At the last executive meeting Mr Senior spoke strongly against the appointment of a player coach. In his letter to the assocla tion Mr .Senior said that he did nut wish to be a member of the executive because of a previous “bitter aftermath’’ following a similar appointment some years ago. The Avon club also criticised the appointment of a player coach. Its letter said that it believed that the by-laws stated that a non-player be appointed coach in preference to a player coach when a non-piaycr was available. Miss B. Makinson said that the by-laws stated that one selector for senior men's and senior women's representative teams be appointed coach to travel to all games. There was no reference to the appointment of a player-coach Miss Beale is also a Canterbury selector.
