Positive Move In Fertiliser Dispute

(New Zealand Press Association)

WELLINGTON, November 1. The Meat Board today appointed five new directors to the South Island Fertiliser Company in a bid to end the dispute between the company and the Dominion Fertiliser Company.

The board took this step after receiving a letter from the Minister of Agriculture (Mr Taiboys) who said that as the attempt to bring the parties together had failed, the Government was prepared to approve the use of Meat Industry Reserve Account funds, provided the board reaffirmed its earlier recommendation to that effect. The five directors ap-

pointed to the South Island Fertiliser Company are: Messrs J. M. Crawford, Russell Hervey, A. A. Solomon and E. R. Sullivan, all of Timaru, and Mr E. J. Nielson, of Oamaru. These directors will meet the provisional directors appointed by the farmers par ticipating in the co-operative works to examine the position and make recommendations to the board.
