They All Went Down

WHEN he is at his best ’’the Christchurch Golf Club captain, A. W. Robinson. is one of the finest putters in the province, and he gave a notable example of his skill on Sunday, when playing in the Markers’ Cup foursomes match at Shirley with D. D. A Reese. At the first hole, Reese left Robinson only a tap-in putt, but at the second Robinson holed an eight-footer. There was another tap-in at the third, and then he holed a six-footer at the fourth. At the fifth hole, Robinson’s putting task was again simple but at the next two holes he sank putts of 10 feet and three feet. At the eighth and ninth, his putts were again formalities, and at the tenth and eleventh Reese did not even require his partner to putt. Robinson holed a putt of 10 feet at the twelfth, had tap-ins at the next two holes, and at the fifteenth sank one of 20 feet. He successfully holed a two-footer at the sixteenth, and one of 10 feet at the next hole. So when he was left 10 feet from the hole on the last green, it was pointed out to

him that throughout the round, he had not failed to sink a putt. This information was not too much for him: this putt, too, went in. to complete an astonishing performance. Reese, who is on 11, played extremely well, and his combination with Robinson (1) brought them a score of 70 off the stick. Little wonder their net 64 won the trophy easily.
