DYSENTERY CASE

Health Dept. Investigating The Health Department is investigating a case of bacillary dysentery notified last week. It involves a woman in her thirties in the Waimairt County. Two cases of infective hepatitis, both in the Waimairi County, were also notified in the Christchurch health district last week. One is an adult woman, the other a male. The medical officer of health (Dr. L. F. Jepson) said yesterday that investigations into the case of bacillary dysentery were being carried out to find if the disease had been contracted in the district or outside it. As it involved an adult it was not likely that more than one person would be involved, but all precautions were being taken, he said. Other diseases notified to the department for the week ended October 29 in the Christchurch district were a female child in the Papama County with non-respiratory tuberculosis, and three cases of pulmonary tuberculosis. Two of these were adults in the Waimairi County and the other a man in the city area.
