Aranui H.S. Approves Plan For New Library
Plans for a new “free-stand-ing” library for the Aranui High School were approved by the school’s board of governors this week. The headmaster (Mr W. J. A. Brittenden) suggested that the board accept the plan and seek improvements later. Mr Brittenden said the I school was apparently entitled to the library next financial year. He thought the area opposite the present staff room would be the ideal site. The workroom in the new library plan was twice the size of the present room, but it was still not big enough. The enrolments for next year were 354, and with certain special-class entries would exceed 360. said Mr Brittenden. The school roll would therefore be about 926 Mr Brittenden asked board members if they wished to fix a ceiling for enrolments, but the matter was left in his hands. Aranui was now accepted as the district school and appreciated as such, said Mr Brittenden. Enrolments had increased by 20 per cent on last year and an increasing
number of pupils was coming from the local area. The board accepted in principle three Malaysian students who applied for entry to the sixth form next year. It was believed that final approval would have to be given by the Education Department. Mr Brittenden said he would welcome any increase in the sixth forms. Most Malaysian students he had known had been pleasant and hard workers.
