FORESTS TO BE SPRAYED
I Pine Fungus Control (N.Z. Press Association) ROTORUA, October 20. Seven aircraft are expected to begin a wide forest-spray-ing programme on Tuesday to combat the dothistroma pine fungus. The aircraft will concentrate on small areas of infected pine forests in pockets throughout the North Island, and as far south as Golden Downs forest, Nelson, before attacking larger areas in the central North Island. The fungus, which causes pine trees to lose their needles, is to be controlled by a solution of cuprous oxide. Researchers believe that two light applications of fungicide each year should protect this year’s foliage from attack by dothistroma, even in heavilyinfected stands.
