Impromptu Speech
“The Press’* Special Service
WELLINGTON, Oct. 20
President Johnson running behind schedule after meeting the Cabinet, made an impromptu speech to members of Parliament in the foyer as he was leaving for the Embassy to meet the Leader of the Opposition, Mr Kirk.
He had just been Introduced to all the members when, near the door, he turned and stopped.
“I just want to thank each of you for the opportunity of paying my respects and showing my affection.
“For a quarter of a century I have had an affection for your country. We have been neighbours and friends and you share the same love of freedom as we.
“We all got our principles from the same source.
“I have found it a great source of comfort that a nation of 200,000,000 can counsel with a nation of 2,000,000.
“Your word is good. Your integrity is good. I have a high regard and respect for you.”
