Airport Sparrows
I Officials at Mangere Airport, concerned about sparrows in the public cafeteria, are to use drugged food in an effort to keep the birds away. The Christchurch Airport’s manager (Mr A. I. R. Jamieson) said yesterday that the problem was not as serious here as in Auckland. There were usually five or six sparrows about the cafeteria each day. The bird problem, such as it was, was being studied. Extra care had to be taken to ensure that any method of drugging or poisoning would not be dangerous to persons using the cafeteria. However, the airport authority was not unaware of its obligation to deal with the problem, he said.
