Plans To Buy Aust. Art
CV.Z. Press Association* AUCKLAND, Oct. 18. The Auckland Art Gallery will attempt to establish a collection of Australian art, its director. Mr G. C. Docking, said today. Ten firms with connexions in New Zealand and Australia were being asked to help to set up the collection. The gallery only had two or three minor works by Australian artists, whereas the National Art Gallery in Wellington and the Dunedin Art Gallery both had small collections. A collection in Auckland would improve cultural contacts between Australia and New Zealand, particularly between Auckland and Sydney.
