RECORD ENTRIES

No doubt the organisers of the first show of the Northern Agricultural and Pastoral Association were well pleased with the success of their venture. They would be surprised, however, if they could see the prenomenal growth that the show has made in all phases during its 100 years.

From small beginnings of 241 entries for the first show, the numbers have reached a record of about 3900 for this week's centennial show, giving record entries for the third successive year.

As well, the demands for space for Industrial and commercial displays have been unprecedented.

To cope with this the show secretary (Mr G. F. Sheppard) said he would be delighted if someone could suggest a way to put a second storey on the area available for these displays. When the final entries for the senior flower sections are included, the total will almost certainly exceed last year's total of 2545 entries by more than 1300. Entries for the various sections, with those for last year in parenthesis. are:— Horses: 1009 (915). Cattle: 369 (220). Sheep: 769 (517). Pigs and sheep dogs: 136 (101). Sundries: 1536 (771). Total: 3821 (2545).
