Special Prizes
Special prizes have been arranged for this year’s Centennial Show at Rangiora, as a result of excellent support from many sections of the community in response to an appeal by the Northern Agricultural and Pastoral Association for assistance in providing commemorative prizes. In most cases the prize money has been increased for the various classes but in other cases trophies have been given, some of them to be won outright at the centennial show while others will be competed for annually. A new system is being tried for the sheep section by
which the prize money will be allocated pro rata according to the number of entries to a class, with the prize money to be shared in the ration of 3,2, 1, for first, second, and third. This system is being tried as an experiment at the suggestion of the sheep committee. Depending on its success, it is possible that all special awards will be allocated on this basis in future years.
Commercial firms have been very generous in their support, while many of the private contributions have come from families with connexions going back to the early days of the show.
