Fiji Not Ignored, Says Rugby Union
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON. Allegations that Fijian Rugby was being ignored by New Zealand were refuted by the N.Z.R.F.U. chairman, Mr T. C. Morrison, yesterday.
Mr B. Henderson, coach of the Suburbs (Auckland) team which has just completed a three-week tour of Fiji, had said that he found the players’ attitude to New Zealand decidedly cool. “They haven’t made a tour of New Zealand since 1957, and they claim the New Zealand union is Showing a lack of interest in them,” Mr Henderson said. “They are not being ignored in that sense,” said Mr Morrison. “We had talks with the president of the Fiji . Rugby Union, Sir Maurice Scott, when he was here this season.
“There is extreme difficulty l in arranging tours at the moment,” said Mr Morrison. He said that in the last two seasons there had been two major tours, and New Zealand was heavily committed for several years yet Next year, New Zealand will go on a tour of the four Home unions, and in 1968 France will tour New Zealand, and the All Blacks then go to Australia. In 1969, Wales and Tonga come to New Zealand. “It is not easy to fit in a tour with such a glut” Mr Morrison said.
