N.Z. First To Arrive

(N.Z. Press Assn. —Copyright) MEXICO CITY. The first world softball championships, with 12 nations competing, is scheduled to begin on Sunday, Associated Press reported. The first team to arrive was New Zealand. The event will be a round robin affair and the first round was announced by the organising committee as: Mexico v. New Zealand, Bahamas v. Canada, Dominican Republic v. Japan, Nicaragua v. Panama. Puerto Rico v. United States, Venezuela v. El Salvador. At the end of the round robin, the four leading teams will have a play-off, the number one team playing number three, and number two playing number four.

Golf Winners.—F. W. Barrett (Christchurch) and D. C. Vercoe (Nelson), 12 up, won the fourball best-ball bogey competition in the New Zealand licensed trade golf tournament at Napier yesterday.

Blind Bowlers.— More than 80 totally and partially blind bowlers will be in Hamilton during Labour week-end for the New Zealand blind indoor bowling championships.
