Pioneer Woman On Five-Dollar Note

This is a result of a request by the Australian National Council of Women.
Last month Senator Marie Breen pressed the Government to adopt the request. In a written reply to Senator Breen the Government Leader in the Senate, Senator N. H. D. Henty, said yesterday that the design of the five dollar note had been finished.
A five dollar note, to be issued in 1967, will feature a portrait of one of Australia’s pioneer women.
“The Reserve Bank has indicated that, while it is not possible at this stage to release details of the design of the new note, it will include a portrait of one of Australia’s pioneer women,” Senator Henty said. At present, Australia has notes of one, two, 10 and 20 dollars. Decimal currency was introduced in February this year.
