Manila Conference
Sir,—At the coming conference in Manila men only are representing the seven countries. Should they fail to unite in formulating peace proposals, surely women should be given an opportunity to do so. Wise experienced women of the calibre of the late Mrs Eleanor Roosevelt surely have some contribution to make at this perilous juncture. Women have common sense and the same maternal instinct, regardless of Communist or democratic ideologies, and if granted the opportunity might be able to suggest a way to subordinate the desire for national prestige and domination for the salvation of their own kith and kin. Perhaps some woman will exercise her democratic privilege by writing to Mr Holyoake with good wishes for a successful conference, but in the event of failure ask him to put before the conference the suggestion that a conference of women be asked to attempt to draw up acceptable and just peace formula proposals.— Yours, etc.. CORA WILDING. Kaikoura, October 17, 1966.
