STAFF TO REPORT

Staff employed by the Harewood road factory of the Sanitarium Health Food Company have been instructed by the manager (Mr M. A. Butler) to report as usual at 8 a.m. today. About 100 persons are employed by the company in Christchurch.

“We are already trying to work out plans to care for the staff,” Mr Butler said last night. Mr Butler said some of the staff would be employed in cleaning up and others in departments which could be kept going. It was impossible to estimate when the factory could resume production until the machinery, floors and equipment had been looked at. The transfer of some staff to one of the company’s other factories in Auckland or Palmerston North, was a possibility being considered, Mr Butler said. No firm arrangements had been made, however.
