Reassurances Bolster N.Z. Forest Products
Reassurances from N.Z. Forest Products yesterday bolstered the price to 21s 6d at the close —9d above the lowest level ever reached by the 10s units in Monday’s sales at 20s 9d—after a day of frenzied activity. Trading was the busiest for a key New Zealand stock for a long time. In Auckland there was a dip to 20s 6d early in the day, a step-by-step recovery to 21s 9d, and then a slight easing to 21s 6d. Wellington opened to 20s 9d, sagged to 20s 6d, and then climbed steadily to 21s 7d.
First sales in Christchurch were at 20s Bd. Then there was steady progress to 21s 6d. Dunedin’s only sale was at 20s 6d.
Otherwise the market continued to ease on above-average turnover but over a narrow range. Key stocks showed twice as many falls as rises, and led the downward trend.
