MOVED FROM HIGHBANK
Church For City Parish
St. Saviour’s Anglican Church, Highbank, was moved on Monday to Christchurch from the site where it has stood for 56 years. It was given recently to the Sprey-don-Hoon Hay parish. The contractor who moved the church, Mr J. Curline, had to take it by way of Coe’s ford, as the load was 24ft wide and could not cross the Selwyn bridge, about 18ft wide. The church was moved in three sections—the main building, the roof, and smaller parts. Furniture and other articles in the church will also be moved to Christchurch.
No services had been held in the church for about a year. The church was given by the Methven-Rakaia parochial district because of reduced attendances, most local parishioners travelling to other churches in the district. It was dedicated and opened for services on May 24, 1910. and consecrated by the Rt. Rev. C. Julius on May 21, 1913. Before it opened, church services were held at the Highbank School.
