DAMAGED SIGNALS
Delay To Trains CN.Z. Press AUCKLAND. Oct. 10. Vandals damaged 12 relays in a signal box beside the main trunk line at Wiri yesterday, causing delays to three trains. Police with two dogs searched the Wiri station area tonight but did not find the culprits. Damage to 12 relays and two telephones was estimated at £270. The first knowledge that something was amiss in the Wiri area came about 2 p.m. when a motorist on the Wiri station road found railways barriers in position across the road. Railways Department employees later discovered the damaged signal box. According to a railways official there was no danger to the three trains which passed over the line today. The signals had automatically turned to red and the trains had stopped for them at Wiri.
