Ship’s Name Shows Link The Japan Rimu, a refrigerated cargo vessel of the Japan Line, links Japan and New Zealand in its name to signify the trade link. Mr H. Conway, conservator of forests for Canterbury, presented Captain H. Suma, of the Japan Rimu, with two framed pictures of a rimu tree and a book on forestry in New Zealand in recognition of the name, aboard the ship last evening. The Japan Rimu is the first vessel of the Japan Line to bear the name of a New Zealand tree. Two other ships of the same line are being built now. The Japan Kauri, which will be completed in a few months and the Japan Totara. The Japan Line hopes to have more vessels of similar names in the next few years. The Japan Rimu made her first voyage to New Zealand in July and she took back a cargo of beef, mutton, lamb and wool for the Japanese market. The 7142-ton cargo vessel will sail for Timaru in a few days to take on more frozen meat for the Japan market.
