Hospital Staff Sought
(N.Z. Press Association* WELLINGTON, October 10. Replacements for the medical team at Qui Nhon hospital in South Vietnam would be recruited immediately, the DirectorGeneral of Health, (Dr. D. P. Kennedy) said today. All five doctors will have to be replaced before the end of March next year, and one of the surgeons and a handyman
by the end of this year. The I normal period of service is from six to 12 months. The total New Zealand staff at the hospital is 15, made up of three surgeons, an anaesthetist, a medical officer for general medical duties, six nurses, a radiographer, technologist, a handyman, and an administration officer.
Dr. Kennedy said the department wanted to make a register of all those willing to serve with the medical unit in South Vietnam. Applicants could then be approached as replacements were needed.
Payment is at existing hospital salaries plus a generous location allowance. Where applicable, a wife and child
separation allowance is paid. Salaries are subject to New Zealand taxation, but allowances are tax-free.
Staff members who serve 12 months or more receive seven days’ paid leave in Bangkok, Hong Kong, Singapore, or Manila, air fares and accommodation expenses are also paid. This is in addition to the usual month's furlough for every 12 months’ service. Dr. Kennedy said terms and conditions of service were available on request, and people interested in making themselves available for the register should write to him or to the Director of External Aid, Department of External Affairs, Wellington.
