Kaupane Picked For Waverley Cup
“The Press” Special Service PALMERSTON NORTH. Kaupane is close to winning form and appeals as the likely winner of the Waverley Cup, 10 furlongs, at Waverley tomorrow.
Kaupane showed a glimpse of his best when he deadheated for third in the Waipukurau Cup last week. He made all the pace and fought back valiantly down the testing straight. Surf Bov has drawn No. 24 so he faces a tough problem in securing a good early position. However, scratchings could reduce the field. Topsil, Paper Kiwi and Goldtone have already been withdrawn, and doubtful starters include Ichtar and Fremont. Understudy and Awaroa, which fdught out the finish to the sprint on the first day at Stratford, may again dispute the finish of the Brewer Memorial, second leg of the main double. The track is expected to be no worse than easy.
