Escapers Give Up
(N.Z. Press Association) HAMILTON, Oct. 10. Two of the Rotorua prison escapers who eluded police for six days in Coromandel bush country near Tapu gave themselves up today. Gordon Ormsby gave himself up in Tauranga and John Leathers gave himself up in Rotorua. A third escaper, Bruce Simon, was recaptured on Saturday night. The three, all aged 23, escaped from the Rotorua police station cells early last Monday morning, a few hours before they were to appear in the Rotorua Magistrate’s Court. Simons is now in Thames Hospital. He cut his wrist very badly in the bush, but he is in a satisfactory condition. A car stolen in Thames was found today in Rotorua.
