Fire Brigades Hold Provincial Contest

I Mr M. Foster, station offi-H cer at Lyttelton, the newly l ' elected president of the asso-|, ! elation, welcomed about 120 J j firemen and officials to the ; annual competitions held J under United Fire Brigades (Association rules at the i domain on Saturday. Fifteen of the 30 brigades in the dis- ■ trict were represented. The Championship Shield for the most points in all competitions was won jointly by the Darfield and Temuka teams. The Bowman Cup, . competed for by teams aged; i less than 21 (two men and! i standpipe), was won by! i Geraldine. The Geraldine brigade also(> , won the W. H. Stokes Shield < ! and the Merritt Trophy. ( , Temuka won the Waimate , i' Fire Brigade Cup and the ]
Hanafin Rose Bowl for competitions with hose and standpipe with breeching, and the four-man motor squad drill. The Stokes Cup for the runner-up to the champions went to Rangiora, as did the Hefford Cup for the four-man hose laying and replacing a disabled length competition, and the Carson Shield for the four-man F.W.P. competition. The Lyttelton License Victuallers’ Cup was won by the Darfield team. Mr C. Bax, of Christchurch, was the supervisor, the starter was Mr F. Kennard, who competed in the first competitions 50 years ago, and the dressage judge was Mr J. Allfrey, of Temuka.
