Official Report And Prices

The official report on yesterday's wool sale issued by the Christchurch Wool Brokers’ Association, in conjunction with : the New Zealand Woolbuyers’ • Association and the New Zealand Wool Commission, says: I “The second sale of the 1966i 67 wool season was held yesterday at the Wool Exchange. Christchurch, when four catalogues totalling 22,984 bales, were submitted. The offering was mainly drawn from the Canterbury and Marlborough provinces with a smaller quan- | tity from the Nelson district. The wools opened up in about I average condition with a proI portion of bright, attractive lots, but with a number of clips showing dust and discolouration • and carrying a fair amount of condition. Due to good growing conditions, the majority of halfbred clips were slightly coarser than usual. There was a large offering of woolly hogget wools and these generally showed up well, being particularly well grown and mainly sound and of a good colour. There were also a few good lines of Merino wool. Piece wools were not as attractive as usual for this sale, many of the lines being off-colour, irregular in length and heavy in condition. Only a small ’quantity of second-shear was ini eluded in the offering, but there was still a fair selection of crutchings. “The sale opened before a full bench of buyers and competition was keen and more general than at recent sales. Continental buyers were operating more freely and Eastern Europe and Japan were also active. Bradford was again quiet, but local mills gave support to the best fine wools. Inferior sorts of all qualities were at times neglected. As compared with the recent Dunedin sale, halfbreds were inclined to be irregular and all but the best lots can be quoted as about 2$ per cent cheaper. Three, quarterbreds and fine crossbreds were slightly easier, while medium and coarse crossbreds were very firm. There were a certain number of passings and , the Wool Commission was called upon occasionally to support the ! market.”
