Discussion By Sports Panel
A panel discussion, entitled “Cricket,” will be held at the annual meeting of the Canterbury Cricket Supporters’ Club.
The members of the panel are Messrs J. G. Leggat, chairman of the New Zealand Cricket Council’s Board of Control, R. T. Brittenden, sports editor of “The Press,” and W. E. Merritt and I. B. Cromb, New Zealand test
players of the same time, between the wars. Mr Leggat will be chairman. Also at the annual meeting, the club’s committee will recommend that £450 be allocated to the Canterbury Cricket Association and its minor associations. This would be £3OO to the C.C.A. coaching fund, £5O to the C.C.A. for general purposes, and £2O to each of the five minor associations to send primary schoolboy teams to the South Island tournament. The club’s annual report shows an increase of 101 in membership—about the same as in previous years. The total membership, of 707, includes 134 under the “husband and wife” scheme. The club will continue its policy of fostering school cricket, with matches against first elevens. As a result of the success of the trip to Australia for the second and third tests last year, it will probably arrange another trip in 196869 for the West Indies team’s tour.
Rally Win.— The FinnishBritish team of T. Makinen and P. Easter won the international Munich-Vienna-Budapest motor rally. Only 58 cars out of 104 starters completed the 11211 miles course. Driving a B.M.C. Cooper S, Makinen once again proved his skill, his victory was practically unchallenged.
