Legal Dangers Of Sterilisation

A doctor who sterilised a married man or woman without the consent of their partner might face legal action for damages, 55,000 British doctors were warned in London today. A spokesman for the Medical Defence Union, a doctors’ advisory body, said it had been told by lawyers that members should get written consent of a husband or wife before performing a sterilisation operation, which was considered irreversible, on either marriage partner. The same applied in the fitting of women with some types of contraceptives, the union said.
