Athletic Beats Harlequins
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright / LONDON. The Athletic Rugby Club, of Wellington, began its British tour at Twickenham on Saturday when it beat Harlequins, 6-3.
The Wellington forwards' concentration on the ball was such that nothing else mattered, least of all their opponents, who were bundled aside, according to “The Times” Rugby correspondent.
| Behind the pack, Athletic I had less to offer and so could i score only one try—R. p. Delilabarca, one of two admirable | wing forwards, going over at ) the back of a line-out. I At fly half, Donovan had a inice turn of speed, but in | this area Harlequins were [well able to cope, and its I right wing, Cox, was the hardest man to stop on either side. I Harlequins, without its regular centres, was crushed in front, except in the tight I where Orr hooked splendidly. ) Only in the second half ’when the referee awarded I kicks at goal, were the fullbacks, E. A. Jenkins and R. B. Hiller, able to kick goals. ) In spite of the lack of scor- ! ing, the game was enthralling, the correspondent said.
