RECLAIMING LAND

Harbour Plan In Wellington (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Oct. 10. The Wellington Harbour Board will reclaim more than five acres of the harbour In preparation for the roll-on, roll-off trans-Tasman service planned by the Union Steam Ship Company. Work on the reclamation of five acres and a half between Taranaki street wharf and the Clyde quay passenger ter. minal is expected to begin early next year. Mr E. 3. Toop, chairman of the Harbour Board, said today the new area would be added to existing two acres and a half of reclaimed land.

The major part of the reclamation work would be completed by the time the service commenced in mid-1968 when the two Union Company trans-Tasman ships would be ready for service, he said. The roll-on berth will cost about £560,000 and is part of the scheme to develop the area from the tug wharf to the breastwork between Taranaki street wharf and Clyde quay.
