VIET CONG ‘NO’
(N.Z. Press Assn. —Copyright) TOKYO, Oct. 10. The Viet Cong today rejected peace appeals by Pope Paul VI and suggested he tell the United States to withdraw its troops from South Vietnam, says the Associated Press.
The South Vietnam Liberation Press Agency, informa tion organ of the Viet Cong said in a commentary monit ored by radio: “It is of no avail at thi? moment to issue vague call' for peace in Vietnam withou' pointing one’s finger at th* United States war criminal' and obliging them to with draw their troops from Soutt Vietnam.” The commentary also con tained a rejection of the six point peace plan suggested bj the British Foreign Secretary Mr George Brown. Meanwhile, the Vatican diplomat Monsignor Sergio Pignedoli returned to Rome yesterday from his mission to South Vietnam and said he was “very satisfied" with the results.
The Archbishop reported his trip to the Pontiff at a private audience shortly after his plane landed.
