NEW BOUTIQUES

London (Special Crspdt. N.Z.P.A.) LONDON, September 27. “Miss Selfridge,” London’s latest pace-setting store where a girl can find anything from a garter belt to a fur coat, has had a sensational first two weeks. Situated in the heart of the West End, just beneath the huge bulk of the main Selfridges’, the £200,000 boutique has been filling newspaper fashion pages ever since it opened. Approached by a series of display windows showing the kinkiest fashions in London, Miss Selfridge claims to be the store where the girl-about-town can find a complete new wardrobe in one lunch-hour. She can find couturier fashions by Pierre Cardin; mini-skirts, skinny sweaters, jersey dresses and Mary Quant designs. If she’s in a mad mood, she can get a five-shilling kick from a packet of “dotties”—brightly coloured paper dots—to be stuck on the face as beauty spots, or on the arms and neek to brighten up a dark dress.

Paris (N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) PARIS, September 27. Yves St Laurent has opened his long-awaited Left Bank Boutique, which will be followed soon by a chain of ready-to-wear shops in university towns throughout France. The decor of the Left Bank Boutique is as young and off-beat as the clothes, many of which are exact copies of models shown in the haute couture collection.

Mr St Laurent personally supervised the interior decoration, which features a seven-foot high full-length portrait of himself In the entrance, and a Daliinspired giant green felt box with an electrically controlled heart flashing on and off in the centre. Lacquer red walls, and orange carpets set off the bright purple furniture and enormous papier mache “nanas” by the American sculptress, Nicky de St. Phalle. The prices range from about £74 for sample knitwear and wool jersey dresses to about £296 for evening clothes.
