STAINS ON TILES
The fine appearance of the tunnel was being spoilt by water stains, but it was hoped that remedial action would be effective, Mr L. H. Wilson, the general manager, told the Christchurch - Lyttelton Road Tunnel Authority yesterday Leaks had been In the tunnel ever since it was opened. Mr L. E. Olliver, the maintenance superintendent, said the authority had obtained the services of a plasterer with experience in controlling seepage. He had Stopped the flow of water on the west wall and attempts were now being made to clean the tiles. If there was no more seepage it might be necessary to replace tiles that had lost their glaze or could not be cleaned.
