Husbands At Childbirth
Sir, — Lady Phyllis Cilento is to be commended for her outspoken views. Whether or not a husband is present at the birth of his child must inevitably affect him in his role as father as well as affecting the importance he attaches to this role. In a leading maternity hospital of another city I have twice been refused the privilege of seeing my children born and have felt this deeply in spite of the explanations given. Could not those obstetricians and nursing sisters who resent this invasion of their professional privacy be persuaded to spare a thought for the family as a unit? Surely that is not too much to ask.— Yours etc. CONCERNED HUSBAND. September 27, 1966. LEADER—
