Science Museum To Have Agricultural Section

A sub-committee is being set up to be responsible for agricultural exhibits in the Museum of Science and Industry' of Canterbury. Mr. C. J. Crosbie told a meeting of the Agricultural Engineering Club (Canterbury) that he had been authorised to form the committee to which Federated Farmers, the Young Farmers’ Club movement, Agricultural and Pastoral Association, the Tractor Importers’ Association, Lincoln College, the New Zealand Institute of Agricultural Science, and the club were being asked to nominate delegates. It was planned to raise funds for the museum at a queen carnival in Christchurch next autumn, and to build a 200 ft to 70ft hall on 64 acres of land at Ferrymead, said Mr Crosbie in a letter to the club. In the hall, space would be allocated for an agricultural display; also, land would be available for displays. In time a special hall would be devoted solely to agriculture and food technology. Mr Crosbie said the authorities were working in close association with the Junior Chamber on a historical park at Ferrymead. Ultimately it should be possible for people to go to Ferrymead, park their cars, and ride on trams and trains and in horse and carts, he said. They would then be able to transfer to a larger train and run on the first railway line, visit the museum and

the go to a trolley bus for the return journey to the car park: The club decided to support the project. Mr B. R. (inlanders was appointed as its representative on the sub-com-mittee to deal with agricultural exhibits. Mr A. L. Mulholland said there was a great deal of material of historical nature scattered around farms in the province, and it was only a matter of time before it would be beyond repair. It would be a pity if thia was lost, he said.
