Man Fatally Injured

A man who suffered multiple injuries when he was hit by a car while walking along the Main North road at Amberley on Thursday night died in the Christchurch Hospital at 6.15 p.m. on Friday. He was Jan Nieora, aged 34, an Australian, who was working for the Nassella Tussock Board at Amberley. The police want to interview anyone who saw the accident. Fatalities reported by the Press Association yesterday were:— Infant Killed An 18-month-old boy was killed when he was run over by a station waggon in a private driveway in Hastings about 1.40 p.m. on Saturday. He was Robin Scott Patrick Warren, son of Mr and Mrs J. A. Warren. Hit By Truck A 10-year-old boy was killed when struck by a truck in Mungavin avenue, Porirua East, at 6.45 p.m. on Friday. He was John Walter Fleming, of Berkshire Grove, Porirua East, the son of Constable and Mrs W. W. Fleming. Thrown From Tractor An agricultural worker was run over and killed by a tractor near Mangokino on Friday. He was Muna Clark, aged 52, married, of Hamilton. Mr Clark was killed about 5 p.m. on the Maoripiri Lands and Survey Department block, 20 miles from Mangokino. Mangakino police said Mr Clark was thrown from and then run over by a tractor, and finally caught in the harrows he had been towing.

Thrown From Car A man died in the Tauranga Hospital on Saturday after being admitted with a fractured skull and chest injuries suffered when he was thrown from his car at Tauriko, near Tauranga, at 7 p.m. on Friday. He was Harold Frost, aged 51, married, of Margaret street, Bellevue, the only occupant of the car. After falling to take a corner, Mr Frost’s car struck a stop sign and overturned completely. Although it landed back on its wheels it was extensively damaged.

Boy Drowned A boy was drowned down a sewer manhole near his home at Henderson on Saturday. He was Peter Nigel Close, aged two, only child of Mr and Mrs G. M. Close, of 42 Woodside road, Henderson. Police said it appeared that pressure had forced off the sewer manhole cover on a vacant section next to the boy’s home. Body On Beach The body of a man was found on the beach a mile

west of Kawakawa Bay on Saturday. It is believed to be that of Alva Hilton Hunter, aged 70, carpenter, of 11 Rattray street, Devonport. His part-submerged dinghy was found in the bay on August 27. Collapsed At Hotel An Australian tourist collapsed at her hotel and died at Auckland Hospital after leaving the liner, Arcadia, on Saturday. She was Mrs Gladys Mary Stabler, aged 58, of 6 McKinley; street, Townsville, Queensi land.
