Prime Ministers’ Conference
Sir,—“Ashamed,” should feel just that at quoting the irresponsible remarks of Mr Kirk. To try to make political capital out of our Prime Minister’s attending a Commonwealth conference is in poor taste. The suggestion that Mr Holyoake went only to raise money from Britain would sound ridiculous coming even from a schoolboy. I cannot recall any report of, Mr Kirk’s opposition to our Prime Minister’s going to the conference and wonder if Labour has gone so far back to its “old look” that it now wants to see the Commonwealth disbanded. Why did Mr Kirk leave his criticism until Mr Holyoake was in London? Yours etc DISGUSTED September 14, 1966.
