Weather Affects Riccarton Flower Show Entries

The number of entries for the Riccarton Horticultural Society’s spring show was very poor, said the secretary (Mr R. C. Rowe). The show was held in the Riccarton Town Hall on Saturday.

“Entries are well down in almost all sections because of the lateness of the season,” said Mr Rowe. “The bad weather has been against us. It is the same all over New Zealand.”

“Daffodils particularly are affected because they are two or three weeks behind in flowering. “The children’s exhibits have been outstanding and their standard is improving every year,” said Mr Rowe. “The cacti and succulent section was more heavily supported than ustjal.” Mrs B. Cain deceived the F. Gilbert Challenge Rose Bowl for the competitor gaining most points at the show. The 44 competitors, 12 of whom were children, provided nearly 500 entries. There were 67 entries in the children’s classes. The society’s patron, the Mayor of Riccarton (Mr E. J. Bradshaw) opened the show. CUPS AND TROPHIES Daffodils. —Amateur: J. L.
