Good Food, Good Music
Tickets cost £3, including dinner, and judging from the response to a trial series at the Swan last winter, the concerts should be highly successful. Last year. Trust Houses spent £175,000 on extending and improving the Swan, which comprises four ancient houses—three of them' date from 1425—and the medieval Wool Hall. The concerts at Lavenham —a small town rich in halftimbered buildings—will be held on November 11 (the
Allegri String Quartet) ;i December 9 (Stephen Bishop,] piano); January 13 (Marisa Robles, harp; Christopher; Hyde-Smith, flute: John Underwood, viola): February' 10 (the Purcell Consort of Voices): and March 10, (Sylvia Rosenberg, violin: Yonty’ 1 Solomon, piano). The pianist John Ogdon opens the series at the 16thcentury Lion on October 13. The concerts will be held in the beautiful Adam-style ballroom, which dates from 1777 —Paganini and Jenny Lind are among those to have given concerts there in the 19th century. The other Shrewsbury concerts are on November 3 (Jacqueline Dupre, cello; Stephen Bishop); Decemaer 1 (Ormonte String Trio); January 5 (Helen Watts, contralto: John Streets,
piano); February 2 (Amadeus String Quartet): and March 2 (Purcell Consort of Voices; Desmond Dupre, flute).
