ROTORUA, Sept. 16.
At least eight aircraft from two agricultural aviation companies are expected to take part in the spraying of 50.000 acres of dothistroma-in-fected pine forest in the Rotorua - Taupo region next month.
A contract for the project. which is expected to cost about £lOO,OOO. has been let to Rural Avia-
tion Ltd. and Adastra Aviation.
The spraying programme will cover private as well as state forests.
The operator of an agricultural pilots' school, Mr B. Dalcom. of Wanganui. will be the coordinator of the programme. Another 35,000 acres will be sprayed in January and February.
Foresters estimate about 27,000 acres of
three main pine specie* are moderately to heavily infected with dothistroma. and about 90.0(H) to 100.000 acres lightly infected.
Four scientists at the Forest Research Institute, Rotorua, are working on research into the dolhistroma problem.
A fifth scientist. Dr. E. Etheridge, who worked on dothistroma in Tanzanian forests, will arrive in New Zealand next week to join the team.
