HOSPITAL SHIP FOR SAIGON
(N Z.P -A.-Renter—Copyright • SAIGON, Sept. 15. The West German hospital ship Helgoland sailed into Saigon today on a mercy mission aimed at relieving the pressure on the capital's overcrowded hospitals. The 150-bed ship tied up in the Saigon river near the centre of the city, in front of a quay decorated with welcoming banners. The Helgoland, converted from a liner into a
hospital ship by the West German Government earlier this year, carries eight doctors and 19 nurses.
It also brought three ambulances which will be used to take patients to the dock.
Present plans are for the ship to treat only civilians.
Its captain, Rolf Hesse, from Hamburg, said the boat would probably start treating patients at the beginning of October.
